What is Fotona SP Dynamis Pro Fractional Laser Resurfacing?
The Fotona SP Dynamis Pro is a versatile, multi-application laser system that excels in fractional resurfacing. Fractional laser technology works by delivering precise micro-beams of laser energy deep into the skin, creating controlled micro-channel injuries. Crucially, it treats only “fractions” of the skin's surface (hence being called “fractional” resurfacing), leaving surrounding tissue intact.
Stimulates Natural Renewal
This process triggers the body's natural healing response, stimulating rapid production of new collagen and elastin, the essential building blocks for firm, smooth, and youthful skin.
Effective Results, Faster Recovery
The fractional approach ensures highly effective results while significantly speeding up the healing process compared to traditional, fully ablative lasers.
Key Treatment Benefits
The treatment is highly customizable and can address a wide array of skin concerns across the face and body:
Fine Lines & Wrinkles
Softens perioral and periorbital lines and smooths overall facial wrinkles.
Acne Scars & Surgical Scars
Remodels scar tissue for a smoother, less noticeable appearance.
Uneven Skin Texture
Significantly improves overall skin texture, making it feel softer and look more refined.
Pigmentation & Sun Damage
Reduces the appearance of sunspots, age spots, and discoloration.
Skin Laxity
Promotes collagen contraction and regeneration, leading to noticeable skin tightening and firmness.
Enlarged Pores
Minimizes the appearance of large or open pores.
How Does the Treatment Work?
The Fotona SP Dynamis Pro utilises both Er:YAG and Nd:YAG laser wavelengths, allowing for highly targeted and tailored treatments. For fractional resurfacing, the Er:YAG laser is typically employed to precisely ablate (vaporise) micron-sized columns of skin tissue.
Consultation
Your journey begins with a thorough consultation to assess your skin type, concerns, and goals. A personalized treatment plan, detailing the depth and density of the fractional beams, will be created.
Procedure
During the session, the Fotona handpiece is passed over the treatment area. You will feel a warming sensation, often described as a series of quick, warm snaps. Topical anesthetic may be used prior to treatment depending on the planned depth of resurfacing.
Healing & Results
Post-treatment, the old, damaged skin cells are gradually shed, and new, healthy skin emerges. Collagen production continues for months, leading to ongoing improvement in firmness and texture.
Downtime and Recovery
One of the significant advantages of the fractional approach is the reduced downtime.
Note: Makeup - Depending on depth of resurfacing, mineral make up may be applied from 48 hours post treatment (in shallow depth treatments), or 5-7 days post treatment (if deeper treatments). We will discuss this with you during your initial consultation.
Immediate Post-Treatment
Skin will appear red, similar to a deep sunburn, and may feel warm. Mild swelling is common.
Days 1-3
Redness subsides. Micro-crusting or bronze 'dots' may appear where the laser had treated the skin.
Days 4-7
The bronzed skin begins to flake off, revealing fresh, pink, new skin underneath.
Potential Risks and Complications
While Fotona SP Dynamis Pro Fractional Laser Resurfacing is considered safe when performed by a trained professional, as with any medical aesthetic procedure, there are potential risks and side effects to be aware of.
We will discuss all potential risks in detail during your initial consultation, ensuring you are fully informed before proceeding with treatment.
The skin can remain pink or red for several weeks or, rarely, months, particularly after deeper treatments. This can often be covered with make-up. Post-treatment care and specific soothing products help manage this.
Mild to moderate swelling is common, typically peaking 24-48 hours after treatment. Sleeping with the head elevated and using cool compresses can minimise swelling.
Temporary darkening of the skin (Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation or PIH) can occur, especially in darker skin tones or if sun exposure is not strictly avoided. Strict sun avoidance and use of broad-spectrum SPF is crucial. Pre- and post-treatment topical agents may be recommended.
Rare lightening of the skin (loss of colour) that can be temporary or, rarely, permanent. This is discussed during consultation for high-risk individuals.
The treated skin is temporarily more vulnerable to bacterial, viral (e.g., cold sores), or fungal infections. Antiviral medication may be prescribed prophylactically. Keeping the treated area clean is essential.
Extremely rare, but possible, particularly if the treated area is picked or if post-treatment care instructions are not followed. Follow all aftercare instructions precisely and avoid picking or scrubbing the healing skin.
